IMPACTS - Innovative Measures of Personal Abilities Cultivated in Tufts Students

Principal Investigator: R. J. Sternberg
Co-Principal Investigators: Linda Jarvin and Dawn Terkla
Project Director: Tzur Karelitz

Description: In recent years, colleges and universities have sought ways to evaluate the outcome of higher education in its broadest possible sense. The IMPACTS project aims to explore the effect of the Tufts undergraduate education on its students’ personal qualities. Specifically, in addition to gaining content-related skills and knowledge, do Tufts students acquire other skills such as leadership skills, a heightened international awareness, or a deeper commitment to active citizenship and community involvement? To investigate this question, we will use existing instruments and develop new assessments and rubrics to effectively evaluate the Tufts undergraduate education outcomes. For example, our current focus is on developing novel assessments of wise leadership, creativity, analytic and practical thinking.
